Gippsland Southern
Health Service chemotherapy nursing staff organised a mass planting
of daffodils in support of local people affected by cancer.
The front garden of
the Leongatha campus was a sea of yellow following the planting
of over 1,200 daffodils.
Bought for $2 each,
the daffodils acknowledged the name of a person affected by cancer
and were planted by staff and relatives in a moving and well-supported
dedication ceremony.
The project raised
more than $1,500 with proceeds to Centenary House in Traralgon,
which provides accommodation to cancer patients, and to the Cancer
Care Centre in Traralgon.
others plough through snow showers
The first snow in Leongatha
for around 50 years and even heavier falls in Korumburra did not
stop Gippsland Southern Health Service staff turning up for work.
Snowed-in driveways
and closed roads had some Leongatha staff, rostered to work at the
Korumburra campus 15 minutes away, at a loss for transportation.
A quick-ring around,
however, led to a plan for staff with four-wheel drive vehicles
to meet colleagues at Leongatha campus for the trip to Korumburra.
Four-wheel drives were
also put to work delivering meals on wheels and ferrying district
nurses to their appointments.
