SRS pilot supports vulnerable Victorians
A $605,000 pilot program will give personalised support to people
living in Supported Residential Services.
SRS are privately-funded and operated supported accommodation facilities
for seniors or people with a disability needing assistance with
daily living.
Victoria has 205 registered SRS with 6,900 residents.
Aged Care Minister Gavin Jennings said the pilot would be trialled
in seven locations across the stateBallarat, Bright, Lalor,
Healesville, Boronia, St Kilda and Noble Park.
These are all pension-level SRSthey rely solely on residents
fees, which are generally equal to or less than the aged or disability
pension.
This pilot project aims to improve the lives of some of Victorias
most vulnerable people, Mr Jennings said.
The majority of people living in pension-level SRS are under
the age of 60 with various disabilities.
The packages will be tailored to meet the individual needs
of residents and could include support for personal care, assistance
with eating, behavioural management and nursing care.
Mr Jennings said the pilot program was part of the Governments
ongoing commitment to ensure all Victorians, particularly the most
vulnerable, have access to quality health and aged care services.
Up to 20 residents per facility will receive packages through this
pilot program.
Community-based agencies will work with proprietors to make sure
the $5000-a-resident care packages achieve the best outcomes for
residents.
The pilot will run for 12 months and will be independently evaluated.
