Travel grant for speech therapist

Kathryn McKinley jpeg

Austin Health speech therapist Kathryn McKinley has received a travel grant to visit aphasia centres in the UK and Canada.

Austin Health speech pathologist Kathryn McKinley has won a $7,000 Quota Travel Scholarship to visit aphasia centres in the UK and Canada.

She will look at programs for people who experience long-term social and communication difficulties associated with aphasia, a language difficulty usually resulting from stroke or brain injury.

Ms McKinley works with TALCOM—a communication group at Austin Health’s Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre helping people with their speech, understanding, reading and writing to increase their community participation.

‘I am inspired by those I work with and happy at this opportunity to increase my knowledge.’

Ms McKinley’s scholarship was awarded by Quota International, a worldwide philanthropic organisation with a particular interest in people with speech and/or hearing impairment.
