New nursing home for Red Cliffs
A new $5.5 million Government-funded nursing home in Red Cliffs
will provide state-of-the-art facilities for frail older residents.
Aged Care Minister Gavin Jennings said the new 30-bed nursing home
would be built in Calotis Street to replace the ageing premises
in Jamieson Avenue.
The nursing home will be co-located with the existing 45-bed hostel,
also operated by Red Cliffs Community Aged Care Services.
The new nursing home will provide a modern and comfortable
living environment for frail older people, Mr Jennings said.
The existing building is cramped and rundown but the new
nursing home will feature single and double rooms with ensuites,
new lounge/dining facilities and will consolidate kitchen, laundry
and administrative and support services across the 75-bed complex.
Commercial Industrial Construction Group is the successful tenderer
for the Red Cliffs redevelopment and will start construction later
this month.
The project will be completed next year.
Mr Jennings said the Government provided $25.5 million to upgrade
rural nursing homes in the 200304 State Budget, including
funding to redevelop Red Cliffs Nursing Home.
