Help for migrants in City of Casey

The South Eastern Region Migrant Resource Centre has opened a full-time office in Narre Warren in the City of Casey.

The office at 60 Webb Street, Narre Warren, will offer a full range of services.

They include settlement advice and support—housing options, income support options and available health services; service planning and development advice for migrant communities; employment, youth and aged care services and a drug education program for migrant families.

In partnership with Adult Migrant Education Services, the South Eastern Region Migrant Resource Centre also conducts a distance learning group for eligible migrants and refugees needing to learn English.

The City of Casey is not only one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, it is also home to a large migrant population.

According to figures from Census 2001, 25 per cent of Casey’s population is from a non-English speaking background.

Guests at the official opening included representatives of Federal, State and local governments, community leaders from Casey, Dandenong and Cardinia and heads of non-government agencies and welfare organisations.

• The South Eastern Region Migrant Resource Centre in Casey is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, phone 9705 6966, fax 9705 6977, or email sermrc@sermrc.org.au.
