Staff taking part in Kingston Centre singing sessions do not have
to be note-perfect.
Wednesday lunch-time singing sessions in the Concert Hall at Kingston
Centre are open to all staff and the idea is to just have fun.
Senior Neuropsychologist Jenny Bravin, who helped get together
the initial group of singing nurses, administration staff and occupational
therapists, said all participants needed was an inclination to sing
in the shower.
The level of skill is not importantwe want to get the
work/life balance just right.
Any of the staff is welcome to join us at any timeits
about participation and enjoyment.
The singers cover songs from artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra,
the Beatles and ABBA.
Ms Bravin said the idea was for staff to have the space to
let go and de-stress for a while.
Afterwards, staff are often humming along in the corridors
as they go about their work, which is more likely to have a positive
impact on patients.
The singers did form a group long enough to provide entertainment
at Southern Healths Healthy Opportunities launch by Chief
Executive Officer Linda Sorrell.
The audience appreciation was a recommendation to staff of other
organisations to strike a chord.
Healthy Opportunities is an initiative that highlights employee
support, work/lifestyle, environment, recovery and wellbeing.
