DHS Gippsland Region Manager Valerie Callister opens the new Bass Coast Community Health Service centre with Service CEO Ben Leigh, President Carol Blair and Bass Coast Mayor John Hulley.

Gippsland Department of Human Services Regional Director Valerie Callister has opened a new Bass Coast Community Health Service centre in Wonthaggi.

The new centre will deliver services such as maternal and child health nursing, paediatric occupational therapy, alcohol and drug services, community aged care, disability services, health promotion and volunteering.

The building includes shared office areas, consulting rooms, a group room and the Maternal and Child Health Centre.

Mental Health services will be co-located on site.

The substantial fit-out of the building was funded by the Bass Coast Community Health Service with support from the Department of Human Services.

Pupils from four local primary schools took part in a colouring competition to mark the centre’s opening.

Their work took pride of place in the centre’s front windows in the weeks before.

The schools were Wonthaggi, Wonthaggi North and St Joseph’s Primary and Bunurong School.

Ms Callister announced the winners and presented prizes as part of the opening ceremony.
